Overview
This is the non-college credit version of the module. It is each participant's responsibility to contact professional development system and licensing personnel to confirm how Aim4Excellence assists with meeting established state criteria. When enrolling and accessing module training materials, carefully select either the 'non-college credit' or 'Aim4Excellence modules for college credit' based on these determined professional development needs. 

This module introduces you to operational leadership and looks at your critical role in managing the day-to-day operations of an early childhood program. In this module you will explore how to ensure efficient management systems are in place and explore the importance of systems thinking. You will identify your program’s different stakeholders and consider how to engage them in strategic planning. You will recognize the need for clear policies and procedures to alleviate risk within the early childhood program setting.

Objective

After completing Managing Program Operations, you will be able to:

  • Examine the complexity of operational management and leadership, including the application of systems theory to support necessary operating systems
  • Identify stakeholders and manage a strategic planning process
  • Investigate quality benchmarks related to program operations within the subscales of the Program Administration Scale (PAS)
  • Use specific tools for managing systems, including standard operating procedures, workflow analysis, calendars, and Gantt charts
  • Explore additional health and safety policies and procedures to protect the early childhood program, the children, families, and program staff
  • Identify core elements of a disaster preparedness and emergency evacuation plan
  • Review preventative best practices in risk management to avoid potential allegations of child abuse and neglect
